Trail Review: Elk Neck State Park’s Beaver Marsh Trail

Admittedly we actually did this trail much earlier in the season, so you will notice that things are still pretty green. But since it is currently cold and raining, I figured now would be a good time to do a review of Elk Neck State Park’s Beaver Marsh Trail. This was one of our earlier hikes, so we were not quite as solid as we are now, so keep that in mind too.

The Beaver Marsh Trail actually gets a pretty good score in our books. Both Seningen and I enjoyed this loop. The loop is about 2.5-3 miles in length and weaves its way around this Beaver Marsh. It has a couple of good benches to look out over the marsh and the river. It is also has a convenient trail head at both Rogue’s Harbor Road (The boat ramp) and the Elk Neck State Park Campground. For the most part this trail is pretty easy to follow and contains only reasonable inclines and declines. Pretty manageable for just about everyone, despite it being listed as hard, it wasn’t too bad for us really.

There was one slight problem with the trail and it has to do with one of our favorite problems with park maps and signage… Seningen and I got to this beach and it was not super clear that this WAS the trail. So we had to play our favorite game “we had to have missed something.” News flash: We didn’t miss anything, the end of the trail is literally a walk on the beach. Be prepared to get a little muddy.

Overall Rating:

Best Part: The views. It had some great views of water, which I am always a sucker for.

Worst Part: “We had to have missed something” signage. Seriously, just tell us to walk across the beach its cool.

Difficulty: Easy-Low Moderate

Views: Great.

Overall Recommendation: Great day hike for anyone in Elk Neck State Park.
