Okay, so lets start this adventure off with the obvious. You see that map in Nick’s hands? It is a dirty filthy lying sheet of paper. The trail signs lied less, but they too had tricks up their sleeves. So keep in mind that as I review these trails, it comes with some honest assessments, but also a fair amount of confusion as to the exact direction of travel to start with.

Let’s start by talking about the Greenbrier trail, which truly confused us for a significant amount of time. There is only one hill on this trail. If you find yourself climbing the exact same one 3 times because you followed signs in a big circle, we will forgive you, we did too. In actuality, what happened is there are two turns of the trail very close together and if you accidentally go right instead of left, you will end up back at the car…which we may or may not have done.
The trail itself is pretty wide and provided a variety of terrain. In most places it was wide enough for us to walk next to each other. In most places it was forested, but did have an optional loop around a meadow. As the name of the state park implies, you get a few good views of the Bohemia River as you walk.

Here is our first accidental overlook of the Bohemia River. Because of the earlier mentioned confusion we ended up at Oak Point, which provided us with this awesome picture spot and peaceful view of the river.
After fixing our mistake, we managed to follow the Greenbrier Trail from start to finish. With exception of the accidental turn around and aforementioned multiple trips up the steepest hill in the park, the trail was actually a pretty easy going one. One that could easily be completed by a family or someone with pets.

At the end of the trail we were rewarded with this beautiful overlook, a picnic table, and plenty of acorns to toss. Seningen, who is a world champion acorn thrower, found this spot to be excellent for tossing acorns. It comes highly recommended by this blog. After a snack we made our way back the way we came.
On our way back, we decided to take a little detour on the Meadow Loop which acts as a dog leg off the Greenbrier Trail. This loop provides some views of a pollinator meadow. Because we went in the fall it was pretty much all dead for the year, but I am willing to bet this is an excellent spit to get a look at some flowering plants and butterflies during the spring and early summer. After completing this loop we realized that we had made it most of the way around the park and decided to finish it off. In the next post, I will review the Watercress Trail.

Final Rating:
Difficulty: Easy
Views: Nice
Best Part: Great Access to the Bohemia River and Acorn Throwing.
Worst Part: Signage… It was a little difficult to figure out sometimes.
Recommended: For people looking for a casual walk
